ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

The Africa Ithemba Network (T.A.I.N.) finds its spiritual and cultural roots in the Xhosa word “Ithemba,” which translates to “Hope.” The organization was envisioned many years ago by Reverend Kalaki, whose foundational belief was that hope must be accompanied by practical action to truly transform lives.

While our heritage is long-standing, T.A.I.N. was formally established as a structured entity in 2019. On October 3, 2019, the South African Department of Social Development officially acknowledged our social utility and approved our registration. This milestone marked the beginning of our formal journey to address the critical demands of the Cape Town community.

Today, we are a fully compliant and transparent organization, registered under the Non-Profit Organizations (NPO) Act 1997 (ACT 71 of 1997)  NPO: 236-209. Furthermore, as a reflection of our commitment to public service and financial accountability, we are a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) under PBO: 930089044. We operate from our headquarters located at 4 Tallent Road, Parow, Cape Town.

Our Strategic Triple Objectives

Since our inception, our mission has been actualized through a comprehensive “Triple Objective” strategy designed to foster resilience and growth within our local community:

  • Objective A: Protection & Advocacy against Violence We are dedicated to the creation and implementation of an urgent, comprehensive strategy to combat all forms of abuse and violence. Our focus remains on protecting the rights and dignity of impoverished South African girls, women, and children, as well as refugees who have sought safety within our borders.

  • Objective B: Economic Empowerment & Entrepreneurship We facilitate the emergence of employment and entrepreneurship by offering a variety of practical, accredited disciplines. Our goal is to assist students—specifically young disadvantaged women, mothers, and refugees—in gaining meaningful access to the labor market. By helping them develop their own businesses, we provide the means for them to uplift themselves, support their families, and systematically reduce poverty in our Cape Town neighborhoods.

  • Objective C: Integration & Institutional Networking We work to create effective networks of support and communication between local government agencies and refugee communities. By bridging the gap between policy and people, we ensure that integration is handled with dignity and that essential services are accessible to those who need them most.

Who we are

We are a team who believe through our actions that every helping hand can uplift a human being and create a better future for them..

The Evolution of Our Outreach

“Our journey began by serving South African women, youth, and refugee communities—individuals driven by a profound desire to transform their lives through education and opportunity. This commitment deepened as we witnessed the immense need for food security and quality schooling among underprivileged youth.

Recognizing these challenges, we scaled our efforts and expanded our reach. Today, our dedicated team operates across multiple regions, committed to ensuring that no child is left behind and that every individual—regardless of their background—has the essential resources they need to thrive.

A Duty of Global Solidarity

Beyond our core objectives, we fulfill a duty of solidarity every week, our association provides food and clothing to the most impoverished members of our society, ensuring that immediate compassion sustains the present while our training programs build the future.
